Minimizing Our Environmental Impact

Manufacturers of thermoplastic extrusions, like us, point to the durability of TPE's as an environmental bonus. 

The argument is pretty simple: window seals made from other materials warp over time. Warped seals create air leaks in your building, which of course means your HVAC units are now working harder. Not only that, you also have to replace the seals, consuming more energy and waste in the production of the new seals. TPE parts, on the other hand, preserve their factory quality for much longer and under much harsher treatment. 

It's a good pitch, right? Except for us, it's not just a sales tactic. Reed Rubber Products really does work hard to minimize our impact on the environment even before we ship your part. Some examples: 

• We landfill less than a quarter of a percent of our production scrap. That means 99.75% of our scrap gets recycled. 
• We produce over 1,000,000 lbs of product a year, yet we dispose of less than 2,000 lbs. 

• We recycle all of our cardboard and paper. 
• We transitioned to a C02 laser marking system to eliminate the harsh solvents used with inkjet printing systems. 
• We invested in a VFD air compressor over a standard blow-down rotary screw air compressor to save over 100,000 kWh of energy annually. To put it another way, that saves the equivalent greenhouse gas emissions of 15.3 passenger vehicles driven for a year. 

Do these efforts come at the expense of the quality of our work? Absolutely not!
